I wonder where this painting came from? I am curious about the figure in the background. What is he doing? Where did he get those boots? He seems to be dressed for a different era. This is a very unusual picture you have shared. xoxo
Oh Mz. Gemma, so curious am I. I took the picture and cropped it to show only the man in the background, which of course made him bigger. It seems he is not wearing boots as I thought, but high top shoes with leggings, and a turban on his head. I think he has a long stick, and is trying to knock what looks like fruit out of that tree. Makes sense for a picnic. Now we know. :) xo

ReplyDeleteAgree. I thought the man was out of place. It is from a 16th century painting by Gerard David, and is in the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
