Vintage books

My first set of books
At age three: "My book house Books"
the classics
made simple

Still have some volumes
First few were nursery rhymes,
One two buckle my shoe,
Jack and Jill,
Over in the meadow

then children's stories:
Cinderella,
Jack and the beanstalk,
The boy who cried wolf,

Last few in the set:
Jason and the golden fleece,
 Sinbad the sailor,
The Snow Queen
and more

~
I was taught the joy of reading
early on.
Thanks be to my parents who guided me
to literature.
My life has been blessed because of it.

  1. A book is a wonderful thing to live. I'm really happy for you that you still have this set. How cool to take one down from the shelf and look through it, and get a flood of memories. xo

  2. This is so special having your books going back to such an early age. The saddest thing that ever happened to me, book-wise, was when I moved from San Diego in 172 and forgot to pick up a box of old books out of storage. By the time I realized it, it was too late. Sad. Sad. Sad.

  3. How wonderful to have these books from your childhood! I agree...the gift of loving to read is one of the greatest things a child can receive.

    1. I don't have the whole set. A few of them survived over the years as my mother had them in storage.

  4. I don't have a set like this (wish I did!) but I do still have some of my early readers from school. I also learned to love reading from an early age...and I've passed it on to my children. I'd be a much different person if I didn't read!

  5. Where would I be with out books. I have an old set that includes classics like Little Women and so forth. I will pass them on to my daughter one day.
