Playing

This was the most fun! Loving Vincent as I do, having the chance to play with his images on Following the masters thrilled me. I looked deeply into his work and gasped regularly at his fabulousness. It was thrilling playing around with wheat fields and starry nights.
What was he seeing and feeling as he painted them?

However it was Van Gogh's painting of Madame Ginoux that I completed. My colors on this are mostly the same as his original....very bright. He used red as an outline for her eyes. So cool. Doing this gave me a little insight to Van Gogh.
Thank you for this challenge.

  1. The colors are fantastic Gemma. How exciting it is to try and paint like the masters. I did that one time and painted his doctor, Dr. Gachet and in fact I still have it in my studio. You really get into it and like you said wonder about their thoughts as they painted. You did a great job, congratulations. Have a great weekend.

  8. Gemma,

This is brilliant - absolutely brilliant. BTW, brilliant is a word that the English use that Americans do not use enough and never in the way the English do!

  9. I adored this challenge too, Gemma. I was moved to research and read and just thrilled through the process and came to very much appreciate Vincent's work in a way I'd never done before. Love your representation of Mme. Giroux! I think Vincent was a very tortured soul, alas. Wish I could have known him!

  12. Gemma, this is fantastic. Like a musician doing covers of her favorite songs... and I so love this painting. I love how your personality shines through in your version. Very playful and slightly mischievous, yet somehow soft, dreamy, and maybe a touch melancholy.

    Wonderful! Thanks for sharing :)
